Deputy Police Commissioner supports restrictions of glass bottles during Carnival

Port-of-Spain: Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Ewatski says the police administration completely supports a move by the Port-of-Spain Mayor Louis Lee Sing to restrict the use of glass bottles in the capital city during Carnival.

If enforced no one would be allowed to come into the city with glass bottles.

The matter is now before the Local Government Minister Chandresh Sharma who must take it to Parliament for it to become effective.

Mayor Lee Sing says it would be reckless of the minister not to do so.

Meanwhile Ewatski says a review of the situation at the semi-finals of the Panorama competition at the Queen's Park Savannah on Sunday during which patrons claimed they were beaten by police as they tried to make their way from the Greens to the North Stand will determine whether the police acted out of order and whether training for crowd management needs to be done.
