Demonstration of Samsung Smart class given to forty students

Smart classGeorgetown: As students countrywide read of the potentials of a Samsung Smart School in Guyana, forty students from the New Amsterdam Multilateral School were the first batch to be given a firsthand demonstration of a Samsung Smart class at the Starr Computers Inc. 59 Brickdam, Georgetown this week.

The excited student were like sponges who absorbed all information and student-centric method of teaching based on interactive, collaborative learning which helps better engage students to gain 21th century skills and realize their full potential.

Three teachers accompanied the Information Technology students. They were also enthusiastic about what they leant.

Fourth and Fifth form students were impressed and it was collectively agreed that they would love to have a smart class at their school since it would push students to learn more and it would excite learning and make it a more student oriented rather than just being teacher based.

“Well I would love to have a smart class in my school since we won’t have to fetch a ton of books to school every day and I like the idea that the teachers can give us our scores when we do a quiz right after since the smart class system is design to mark all tests immediately. Our teacher has more time and we would know how much more we would have to learn,” One student explained.

Information Technology teacher of the New Amsterdam Multilateral School, Parbattie Phillips, said the smart class would appeal to students’ inquisitive minds while giving them the opportunity to learn more at their own pace.

“Students are already asking when they can return to have more sessions,” Ms Phillips said.

General Manager (STARR Computer Inc), Rehman Majeed said the goal is to personalised educational experience so that students could follow their own courses and sit customised examinations. Education would be student-centric instead of teacher-centric.

He explained that it gives teachers greater control over their classroom, increasing student engagement and ensuring a more efficient transfer of materials to pupils. This solution facilitates the development of an interactive learning environment by monitoring class attendance and participation, allowing students to work more independently and flexibly.

The Manager further noted that students can write a question on their device which will then appear on their classmates' screens as well as on the E-Board. Teachers are able to answer the question at an appropriate time in the lesson, either orally or in written form. This response is in turn recorded in real time and displayed to all their students, serving to increase concentration and encourage participation.

He added that STARR Computers will be setting up a smart class to offer training and demonstration for the public and private schools.

With the smart school solution, as you can see, the classroom actually changed to a place where students can learn more and communicate more easily.
