Decommissioning of Old Sewer Mains starts Wednesday

GWI 2Georgetown: Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) announced that under the Government of Guyana (GOG) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) US$ 10 Million Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP), the company will be decommissioning old sewer mains to facilitate activation of the new sewerage system which was recently rehabilitated under the programme.

The decommissioning exercise will commence on Wednesday June 18, 2014 and will be followed by the activation of the rehabilitated Force and Delivery Mains as well as 24 refurbished sewer pump stations.  This exercise may result in a temporary interruption of the system.

The company anticipates a successful transition to the rehabilitated system and wishes to assure customers that every effort is being taken to minimize any inconvenience the temporary interruption may cause.
