Cricketer turns self in after shooting man

ShotGeorgetown: A local cricketer is in police custody today after he was identified as shooting Durban Street resident Shawn Nelson to the head at Orange Walk, Bourda, Georgetown.

The 39-year-old Nelson was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition.

Carlyle Barton attached to the Demerara Cricket Club turned himself into Police custody. Reports disclose that Barton and Nelson are known to each other.  Persons at the scene said the shooting may have been accidental, since Barton exited his vehicle to show off a gun which he was playfully pointing at Nelson. However, unaware that there was a round in the breach the young cricketer fire the gun at his friend causing him to be shot in the head.  

The traumatic Barton then sped away in his vehicle and left the bleeding Nelson on the ground. He crashed his car PKK 2030 several times before abandoning the vehicle in the North Ruimveldt.
