Cricketer in Court

Bridgetown,

The trial of fast bowler Tino Best began yesterday in the Bridgetown Traffic Court.

Best is accused of insulting Constable Kenroy Ashton by telling him "You is a nigger" and parking  his vehicle on a footpath on St Lawrence Gap, in Christ Church.

Yesterday Best told the Court that he was dragged out of a nightclub, and his cellphone was slapped out of his hand by Constable Ashton.

He added it was only after he had filed a complaint against the lawman that he was charged.

Proscecution witness Island Constable, Ainsley Gill, told the Court that Best had stated that he was a millionaire before calling Constable Ashton a nigger.

The case will resumes on May 5, then  Best's lawyer Queen's Counsel Ralph Thorne and police prosecutor Sergeant Junior Kirton will address Magistrate Douglas Frederick.
