Georgetown : Copa Airlines prepares to formally begin flights to and from Guyana and  company officials paid a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar.

The team of Vice President of Sales, Guillermo Gomez and local Sales and Marketing Manager, Nadine Oudkerk was accompanied by Public Works Minister Robeson Benn.

Oudkerk explained to the Government Information Agency (GINA) that they briefed the President on the company’s plans for the local market, the appointment of five Guyanese for key positions locally, as well as the filling of other positions with locals.

Oudkerk explained that the response to the airline has been very good, with many taking advantage of the prices to destinations being offered by the Panamanian flagship carrier.

Copa will also place strong emphasis on tourism, and will seek to expand the local tourism product, according to Gomez.

The flights will link Guyana to Copa’s hub of the Americas at Tocumen International Airport in Panama, thus increasing travel options and improving connections throughout Copa Airlines’ extensive route network.

The Guyana route will begin operations with flights twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, to Panama City, Panama, and passengers would have the leisure of booking connecting flights to a number of other destinations such as Montreal, Canada, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and New York.
