Georgetown : Over the past weeks, the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has been engaging contractors across the coastland, who failed to deliver, and have projects that are being rolled over from 2013 into 2014 so as not to have them clashing with those in Budget 2014.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Ganga Persaud said that the Ministry will not be tolerating such behaviour by contractors in 2014.
Minister Persaud said that the ministry met with those contractors who have roll- over projects in Regions 3, 5 and 6 and is scheduled to have meetings in Regions 2, 4 and 10 shortly. He said that the focus is to ensure that the contractors move at the pace required, thereby ensuring timely completion. He noted that “for too long we have roll-over projects that are stretched out.”
As it relates to those contractors who have been successful in winning awards for miscellaneous road projects in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10.
“The emphasis is to get these road projects moving…some of these contractors complete their works in a timely manner, and a few of them would start up the work, particularly taking off the top surface and then leaving ponds to add to the discomfort of residents. We are not prepared to allow those things in 2014,” Minister Persaud said.
