Georgetown: ‘F’ Division (Interior locations) Commander Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram and police ranks Sunday donated supplies to be dispatched to the flood-affected communities in Region 8 (Potaro Siparuni). The supplies were handed over in Orinduik village to members of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and residents of Chenapau in Region eight. The commander noted that the supplies were donated by the business community as a result of good police public relations. Residents said that they are heartened that the Guyana Police Force was supportive and had made the donation. This is even as the residents have expressed their satisfaction with the response by the Government to their needs, after the devastating flash floods which left several homes destroyed and villagers displaced.
A team comprising representatives from the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs and the Guyana Water Incorporated had visited the affected communities to conduct further assessments of the damage and impacts to housing, agriculture and water. Consistent rainfall had resulted in flooding and it was reported that more than 3,000 residents are affected.
