Clico inquiry begins Monday despite attempts to stay proceedings

Port-of-Spain: The Commission of Inquiry into the collapse of Clico, Cl Financial and the Hindu Credit Union (HCU) will proceed as scheduled on Monday despite an application by former CL boss Lawrence Duprey to stay the proceedings.

Counsel for the Commission says the inquiry will take place on Monday but will commence in the afternoon and not the morning as scheduled.

It is believed that during the proceedings attorney representing Duprey lead by Queen's Counsel Andrew Mitchell will formally present the application to stay proceedings. It's not the first attempt by one of the parties involved in the inquiry to seek to stay the proceedings.

Former HCU boss Harry Harrinarine made two unsuccesful attempts to do so. The inquiry which is being chaired by sole commissioner Sir Anthony Colman was originally scheduled to commence hearings in May but was pushed back.
