CJIA staff trained to help boost tourism during Jubilee celebrations

Timehri : Staff of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) were engaged in training to ensure that the thousands of visitors anticipated for the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations have an unforgettable experience.

Minister of Public Telecommunication, Catherine Hughes who has responsibility for tourism, in addressing the staff of CJIA, explained that as the first persons the visitors see when they arrive in Guyana and last persons when they depart, it is imperative that they (visitors) have a pleasant experience. The training was undertaken by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA).

 

Minister Hughes told the staff that “when a customer walks up to you, they must be greeted with bright smiling faces and a warm welcome,” leaving them satisfied and interested in returning.

This, the Minister explained will benefit all; “this will impact your salary, condition of work and will help increase airport tax.”

 

According to Minister Hughes, Guyana faces many challenges; nevertheless, the country has the potential to make strong inroads in the tourism sector.

 

She cited attractions such as different species of birds, magnificent cuisine, and the majestic Kaieteur and other water falls among many others attractions. Therefore, to promote and enhance Guyana’s tourism sector, “you, staff of the CJIA, are very important, and have a significant role in ensuring that our visitors are well treated.”

 

The Minister distributed brochures and Guyana flags to the staff at CJIA and inspected the programmes and upgrades already in place by CJIA’s management for the 50th  Independence celebrations.The 50th Golden Jubilee Independence celebration is slated for May 26.
