Civil Servants have nothing to fear from merger

Bridgetown.

Public Officers will not loose their jobs when Government's revenue collection agencies  are merged to form the  Barbados Revenue Authority.

This assurance came from Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler after a meeting with the National Union of Public Workers and the Barbados Workers Union recently.

"There  is no intention to dislocate workers. This is not a retrenchment excercise, in fact; we might end up with some additional post being created because we are looking at the total gamut of activities of those agencies and what is required. And we know that in some instances, some of those agencies are understaffed in terms of technical skills that are required to carry out the expert functions necessary for efficent revenue collection", Sinckler said.

"So there need not be that fear about about people getting a job cut, we know that these fears crop up from time to time but the worker's interest are being place first", the Minister added.

The proposed Barbados Revenue Authority seeks to merge Government's major revenue collecting departments.
