City Council to decentralize operations

City HallGeorgetown: The Mayor and Councillors of the City (M&CC) of Georgetown would be decentralizing its operations from mid July 2016, according to Public Relations Officer (ag) Debra Lewis.

Lewis said this announcement was made at the level of the administration when Town Clerk Royston King met with Senior Officers of the Council at a special meeting.

The Town Clerk explained this decentralization is necessary to provide a more efficient service within the confines of the City’s Human and Financial resources.

King noted that the decentralization would allow citizens to have better access to Officers and would also enable complaints and quires made by citizens to be handled in a timelier manner.

Therefore, he said citizens who do not live within the central business district would not have to be burdened with traveling to City Hall to have their concerns addressed.

“It is quite a cumbersome arrangement to have senior citizens travelling from as far as Agricola and Cummings Lodge to have issues addressed at City Hall” said Town Clerk King.

According to King in the past the Council had employed this method of management but many of the buildings from which Officers operated could not be utilized. However, with the Council’s ongoing programme to repair and renovate its facilities, decentralization of its services is now possible.

Several officers from the Town Clerk’s Department, City Public Health Department, Clerk of Markets Department and City Engineer’s Department are already assigned to operate from these   two specific locations: Kitty Market and the Agricola Community Center.

Citizens who live in Kitty, Bel Air Park, Newtown Campbellville, Subryanville, Cummings Lodge, and Atlantic Ville are encouraged to visit the Kitty Market while citizens who reside between Agricola and Alexander Village should visit the Agricola community Center to have their concerns addressed.
