City cleanup part of Mash preparations

Minister Norman WhittakerGeorgetown: The Local Government and Regional Development Ministry will be working with the Georgetown municipality to improve the environment, in preparation for the celebrations on Republic Day, February 23.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister Norman Whittaker said the ministry will work along with the municipality, in the days leading up to Mashramani, to clean the route of the Mash Costume and Float Parade.

The parade starts at Camp and Church streets, heads east, and then turns north into Irving Street, then into Dr JB Latchmansingh Road, and west into Thomas Road before culminating at the National Park.

Minister Whittaker said that the exercise would target the issue of the solid waste dumping along the route, as well vegetation and flooding.

Independently, the ministry will also assist to clean-up the access road to the Haags Bosch land fill site at Eccles. This exercise is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
