Christians discriminating against AIDS sufferers

Bridgetown.

Chairman of the National HIV/AIDS Commission Dr Henrick Ellis, says research has shown that some christians in Barbados are refusing to interact with people who are suffering from the HIV/AIDS Virus.

Ellis told Trakker News, although the church is supposed to provide moral support for people living with HIV/AIDS, a study conducted by the Commission revealed 30 percent of christians surveyed did not want any physical contact with people who have the virus.

Ellis said the church is supposed to provide a safe haven for those living with HIV/AIDS and should not be part of a movement which do not welcome them in the society.

According to Ellis, the church's stigma and discrimination will only make a already bad situation worse. He says this is a clear indication that some Barbadians still nedded to be educated about HIV/AIDS.
