Chinese Nationals educated on Labour Laws

Georgetown : The Ministry of Labour engaged Chinese shop and restaurant owners in a training seminar designed to educate them about Guyana’s Labour legislation.
Participants gathered at the Chinese Association on Brickdam were presented with copies of the labour laws on Holidays with Pay, Conditions of Employment, Termination of Employment, Minimum Wages and Severance Pay Acts, all translated into Chinese. There were also the issues of Noise, Fire prevention, and Health and Safety and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Labour Minister, Dr. Nanda Gopaul while addressing the gathering applauded them for being present and placing confidence in the country’s economy. This, he said is an indication that they want to conduct business in Guyana in a legal way.
“Each one of you by virtue of creating employment in this country is generating wealth for this country…you are also part of the development process of this country, and we cannot ignore that,” Minister Gopaul said.

He expressed the hope that the Chinese businessmen and women will take some time to learn the laws and conform.
