Child escapes Berbice orphanage due to alleged sexual abuse

Georgetown : The Administration of the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security disclosed that a report of a child ran away from the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage in New Amsterdam to his parent, allegeding that he was sexually abused at the institution.

This report was received on 28th May, 2014 and the Child Care and Protection Agency responded immediately.

The Agency subsequently removed five other boys from the institution and placed them into protective care to facilitate an investigation.

The Agency, in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, is now investigating the report received.
