Chief Town Planner expresses concern over iilegal structures

Bridgetown.

Chief Town Planner Mark Cummings, has expressed his concerns over the number of Barbadians who continue to build structures without seeking the permission or information from the Town and Planning Department.

He raised the issue during  a public education seminar for small contractors held at the National Union of Public Workers headquarters, Dalkeith Road, St Michael.

The seminar highlighted several issues the Town and Country Planning Department has been observing across the island.

Cummins said there are still too many unnecessary breaches by contractors and builders; he appealed to them to follow the regulations of the Town and Planning Department.

He assured those who breached the regulations that demolishing structures was not the first course of action taken by his department.

Cummins warned those who abused the system that they will have to answer to the department.
