CCJ President Laudes Dominica decision to severe ties with Privy Council

Roseau, Dominica.

President of the Caribbean Court of Justice Sir Dennis Byron is pleased with the Government of Dominica decision to cut ties with the London based Privy Council to join the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

Speaking to members of the Dominica Assocation of Industry and Commerce earlier this week, Sir Dennis said the decision is timely and the CCJ stands willing to serve.

"I trust that it will not be long before the other Governments in the OECS follow this example of leadership", Sir Dennis said.

He noted that while there are some concerns that it is taking a long time for all the members of CARICOM to join the CCJ in its final appellate jurisdiction, it is not abnormal for new courts to take some time for litigants to bring cases before it.
