CARICOM /Singapore high level Ministerial Exchange to strengthen relations

Georgetown : Minister of Forein Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett along with Ministers of Foreign Affairs from CARICOM Member States and the CARICOM Secretary General, is currently in Singapore at the invitation of the Government of Singapore to participate in a CARICOM Singapore High level Ministerial Exchange under the theme “Governing in a Complex World”.  The exchange is being held over the period July 15 to 19, 2013.

There has been a significant increase in engagement and cooperation between the Caribbean Community and Singapore and this High Level Exchange will provide the opportunity to discuss the strengthening of these relations as well as to share experiences on methods to better manage common and complex challenges facing Small States.

Apart from discussions with their Colleague Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials of the Government of Singapore, the Ministers will also visit several locations including the Singapore Aviation Academy, the Singapore Air Traffic Control Centre, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore as well as the Urban Redevelopment Authority City Gallery.

The Government of Guyana and the Government of Singapore established diplomatic relations on September 19, 2002 and enjoy close collaboration at the international level in for a such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the World Trade Organisation and the Non-Aligned Movement.

In recent years, Guyana has benefitted from several offers of training particularly in the areas of aviation, agriculture and information technology. The two countries are exploring enhanced cooperation in the areas of technical assistance and capacity building.
