Caribbean Airlines, Liat reduce prices as Redjet launches service

Port-of-Spain: Competition in the airline industry is heating up as new regional carrier, Redjet launched in Trinidad and Tobago today.

Officials at the  new airline says they are bent on taking regional travel and airfare to new heights by offering the lowest airfares ever in the Caribbean with flights as low as US$10, the equavalient of TT$65.

Redjet, which operates out of Barbados, is offering flights to Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados from Trinidad.

Chairman of Redjet, Ian Burns says Redjet is what the region needs and will allow caricom residents to move around the region easily and frequently given the low airfare.

From as early 1pm on Wednesday, many travellers were able to book tickets online.

Redjet has two MD82 aircraft which were operated by American Airlines. It has already opened the gates for competition with Trinidad-based Caribbean Airlines decreasing their fares to the destinations Redjet plans to operate their service.

Another regional air operator, Liat also reduced airfares to most of its regional destinations.
