Caribbean Airline crash report for disclosure soon

crashGeorgetown: The Government of Guyana will soon be releasing the final report on the findings of a Caribbean Airlines flight that crashed at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport after it overshot the runway two years ago.

The crash report and investigations was carried out by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority. Minister of Transport Robeson Benn is expected disclose the findings to the public within a week.

The packed Caribbean Airlines passenger jet skidded off a runway as it landed at night on July 29,211 and then broke in two at the edge of a ravine. While there were no deaths, several persons were injured.

Detailed analyses will examine several other aspects of this flight to identify any other possible contributing factors.

The Transport Minister had noted that the conclusion of the investigation would help to identify any measures which may assist in the prevention of future occurrences.

The Investigator-in-Charge of the BW 523 runway excursion accident reported that the team is close to the completion of “the factual information gathering phase.”

This phase will be followed by an extensive and detailed analysis of the factual information during which additional research and assistance and outside expertise from organizations such as the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States of America and Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) may be required.

At the end of the analysis phase findings, conclusion and safety recommendations will be developed.
