CARIB Soca Monarch 2013 launched

 

Georgetown: The CARIB team announced their launch of the ninth CARIB SOCA Monarch, which is venturing into the spirit of Mashramani celebrations.

The proposed dates are; Semi-Finals to be held on February 2nd, 2013 in Linden and the Finals on February 16th, 2013 in Georgetown.

The first prize will remain One Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars, with Five Hundred Thousand and Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars for the second and third place prizes respectively. In addition, there will be a People’s Choice Award prize and appearance fee for contestants that make it to the finals.

Entries close on January 3rd, 2013 and no late entries will be accepted. Entry forms are available at the Mashramani Secretariat located in the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports Building on Main Street, Georgetown and at the ANSA McAL Trading Ltd Head Office, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara.

Persons are reminded that the competition rules are as follows: only persons over 18 years old, composition must be an original, composition must not be longer than five minutes, composition must not have been entered in any other song competition(s), tempo must be over 95 beats per minute, composition will be judged on lyrics, melody, rendition, diction and musical arrangement, and composition must not contain any scandalous, libelous, or lewd material.

The CARIB SOCA MONARCH was first hosted in 2004 and had a successful run until 2010, after which the competition took a year’s hiatus in 2011 and then returned in 2012 with a big bang that did not disappoint.
