Berbice : Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred last night on Springlands Public Road, Corentyne, involving motor car PNN 7736 and motor cycle CH 9545, that resulted in the death of Irshad Mamood, 20 years, of Lot 51 Number 77 Village Housing Scheme, Corentyne.
Enquiries disclosed that the cyclist was proceeding south along the eastern driveway at a normal rate of speed, when motor car PNN 7736 which was proceeding north in the opposite direction, allegedly at a fast rate, swerved east into the path of the motor cyclist.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist who fell on the road surface, received injuries to his head and body. He was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the car fled the scene of the accident but was arrested. this morning and is assisting with the investigation.
