Georgetown : A delegation of Canadian and South Arabian businessmen met with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo yesterday at his office at Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, The team is seeking to provide assistance in any way possible, in the new administration’s drive in the building of a stronger and more united Guyana. The delegation was led by Speaker of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, Dr. Alvin Curling.

Dr. Curling noted that the delegation was at the onset approaching the new Administration with its support simply because “we want to show the strong support that we have for this Government.”  He explained that in providing this support, the delegation aims to meet with the officials, find out the needs of the country and then respond appropriately. He noted too that often this is not the approach taken, and what occurs is that support is offered that is not used.

High on the agenda is providing assistance in the security sector, Dr. Curling said. He explained that having effective security in Guyana is key to attracting more investment and businesses.

Dr. Curling also applauded the Administration’s stand of not discriminating because of political affiliation, keeping on board, retaining employment, and working with all Guyanese in the goal of building Guyana.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo warmly engaged the delegation, noting that they were coming at an opportune time, “When we need to have friends showing an interest in Guyana.”

The Prime Minister outlined some of the early challenges being faced by the new Administration, including a bankrupt sugar industry, and the many empty coffers including that of the Petro-Caribe fund.

He also pointed out the mischievous actions of some sections of the public in seeking to use petty issues to seek to give the impression of a rift between the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change Coalition.
