BWA workers off the job

Employee  at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) are officially on strike.

The national council of the Barbados Workers Union met last night and unanimously agreed to take industrial action at the BWA.

Sources say the management of the BWA has failed to conclude negotiations on increments for staff and also on a mains laying project, among other outstanding issues.

Assistant General Secretary of the BWU, Orlando ‘Gabby’ Scott told the media the employees are not happy.

 He said that  the General Secretary of the BWU Sir Roy Trotman will be meeting with the workers at  this afternoon at Solidarity House..

From as early as 7 a.m. the workers were off the job and could be seen standing outside the Pine, St Michael complex before the action was taken to Manor Lodge.

President of the BWA’s union division, Carl Boyce told the media that office staff and repair crews are off the job. He stressed that there will be no disruptions in water service throughout the islands.
The management of the Barbados Water Authority is expected to issue a statement later.
