Budgetary allocations cleared for various Regions

Natioanl-AssemblyGeorgetown:  The National Assembly has approved in full the $2.798 billion for the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry, in addition to clearing budgetary allocations for Regions One to Five.

Meanwhile, under Capital Expenditures for the Ministry Administration, the subject Minister said the $369 million will be provided to the six municipalities and Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), with the councils receiving the sum of $77 million. Georgetown Mayor and City Council heads the list with $20 million, followed by New Amsterdam $10 million, the Linden Mayor and Town Council $10 million, Anna Regina $9 million, Corriverton $8 million and Rose Hall $8 million.

“When you check those, you will find that you need $12 million more. Well that’s some additional funds made available this year as the Fiscal Transfer Programme is operationalised for the first time.” He further explained that the councils will have access to the remaining $12 million, based on a needs and functionality assessment. The Minister has committed to make available on Monday the outline of payment plans for the $369 million.

In the area of Regional Development, he disclosed that the Mabaruma Market Tarmac will be completed at the cost of $8.393 million, the extension of the tarmac $11.9 million, while the sanitary block at the Buxton Market Tarmac will be done at a cost of $2.139 million.
