British High Commission assists school

Bridgetown.

The British High Commission has donated $800 dollars to the Irving Wilson School as part of its committment to that Pine Institution.

Two years ago, the High Commission adopted the school as part of its outreach programme, Principal Wilmont Straughn said the support is making a positive impact on the students.

The High Commission staff initially donated 30 man hours to refurbishing a class room which they converted into a living skills area for the blind, deaf and disabled children.

"In that room you have basic pieces of furniture that our children, deaf even the blind as well… they learn how to do basic keeping of the home, cleaning the room, mopping, sweeping, dusting and this has been working well for us ever since then,"  Straughn .

High Commissioner Paul Brummel said the funds donated were raised from the High Commission  recycling programme and are intended for the school's upkeep.

He described the school as a great model of its kind for those enrolled there, "…providing them with a future setting out with the role models to make their way in society so we're delighted to be able to support the school.''

The cheque was presented to the principal by Lord Wallace the Advocate General of Scotland.HighCom
