Blame game erupts in Parliament on the upsurge in crime as another victim suffer brutal attacks by bandits.

Khemraj RamjattanGeorgetown- Strong attention will be placed on strengthening the police administration, training and identifying crime hotspots and conducting regular patrols.

Ranks will also be deployed to areas most in need. This is according to National Security Khemraj Ramjattan addressing the National Assembly last evening. Many are concerned that these methods to deflate the situation must be effected almost immediately as criminals continue their rampage particularly on the East Coast.

Just after  6pm three armed men pounced on an Enterprise businessman and brutally attacked him as he was about to close his store..They ransacked the establishment and stole close to 1 million dollars in cash and valuables after escaping in a waiting car. Foreigners coming to Guyana to visit their relatives expressed fear for their lives. A group arrived for a wedding this weekend and is calling on the National Security Minister to have at least two armed officers present at the proceedings. Even funerals have come under attack by bandits. Ramjattan said that the Force is faced with a challenge, he said, pointing out that it is short of some 1,500 to 2,000 ranks.

Nevertheless, the minister said more vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, All Terrain Vehicles, and boats, among other facilities, will be given to the police to fight crime.

And added to this, over 100 surveillance cameras will be installed in and around the city to aid in crime-fighting.
