Deputy Police Commander Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper

Georgetown: Twenty-seven police constables in “B” Division (Berbice) recently completed their Pedal Cycle Training. The Guyana Police Force has received 200 pedal cycles and accessories at a cost of US$145, 000 from the United States government.

Divisional Deputy Police Commander Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper who benefitted from the four days training said the learned skills surrounded defensive tactics to use while on patrol and how to best maintain and repair their equipment. Also police ranks learned the most practical ways to mount, dismount, kickstand, maximum effective braking and power slide cornering and barricade stopping.

He explained that the training focused on enhancing their riding skills with specific attention to safety and defense tactics in support of the community policing venture in the Guyana Police Force which will help to eradicate crime and traffic lawlessness within the division.

“This training at this time will go a far way in helping the police to deal with criminal activities in terms of its prevention and eradication,” Senior Superintendent Cooper explained. “We have to deal with our Christmas policing and our community policing efforts. This training is very important at this time to the police force. This training in my humble view is timely at a time that our stewardship and professionalism and our integrity is being called to question, it, therefore, means we have to do continuous training.”
