Berbice men charged separately and remanded for wounding offences

 

Berbice : Leary Fraser, 43 years of Ulverston, Corentyne, today appeared before Magistrate Sabayo Azore at the Whim Magistrate Court on charges of felonious wounding and discharging a loaded firearm with intent.  The charges resulted from investigations into a matter that occurred at the Hampshire Playfield, Corentyne, on March 24th, 2012, where he is alleged to have discharged rounds at Roopnarine Mohabir, 17 years, and his brother Sanjay Mohabir, 20 years, of Williamsburg, Corentyne.Roopnarine Mohabir was hit to hit right elbow and is a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Phillips of Lancaster Village, Corentyne, also appeared before Magistrate Sabayo Azore charged with felonious wounding.  

The charge resulted from investigations into an incident on March 9th, ,where he is alleged to have chopped off the right thumb of his wife Alicia Edwards-Phillips, who is a Special Constable attached to the Guyana Police Force.

Both men were remanded to prison.
