Berbice farmer nabs Leopardus pardalis

A Berbice farmer has captured an Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis),

which has been wreaking havoc on his farm for months. Doorjodhan Seourkarran, a farmer for over 40 years, had applied for a firearm ten years ago but is yet to receive one. He said the Ocelot would frequently wreak kill animals on his farm that he would rear. Last Sunday the farmer was awoken from his sleep by the sound of his frenzied chickens. “I hear the chickens making noise and I went out, there was the tiger cat.” He immediately sought about setting a trap using as bait one of the chickens the animal had injured. A few hours later when he returned the unsuspecting cat had caught in the trap and according to the farmer “It’s bad- luck for you (the cat) now, because you have been destroying my crops.”
