Barbados can benefit from Transparency International rating

Bridgetown.

Overseas investors should Barbados as a attractive option as a result of its ranked the least corrupt country in CARICOM by Transparency International.

This is the opinion of John Beale, Barbados' Ambassador to the United Sates and the Organization of American States.

" For CARICOM that is good to know but more importantly, if we are in 15th in the world, ahead of places like the United States, Japan and Britain, I think that is an outstanding position to be in", says Beale.

"What is realley critical is that if we are looking to attract investments into a country, one of the key things that investors look at is the trustworthiness and credibility of a country", Beale explained.

"Knowing that status, that really high ranking position should help tremendously in terms of attracting foreign investment. So that is one good indicator among the others and I hope that Barbados maintains that position", he added.

Beale, a former banker was responding to a report released las Wednesday by Transparency International on perceived levels of corruption in more than 175 countries.

Barbados was ranked first in the Caribbean and 15th in the world with a score of 76 out of a 100, a better score than many developed countries including the United States, Belgium, Britian and Japan.
