Barbados on top 10 best ethical destinations list

Bridgetown,

Barbados is among six small island states in the top ten of the 2014 list of the world's 10 best ethical destinations.

Ethical Traveler, a project of the Earth Island Institute, issues an annual report on the most-ethical travel destinations on the planet to educate people about the social and environmental impact of their decisions.

The other Caribbean islands to make the list are the Bahamas and Dominica.

Executive director of Ethical Traveller, Jeff Greenwald said the team who worked on the 2014 survey looked at both the past and present states of some 150 developing nations from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe to see how they've changed over time.

They used information from 35 sources such as Freedom House, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, environmental performance index and the World Bank.

The team also ensured that each country that made the final cut offered a strong tourism infrastructure with opportunities for travelers to interact with local people and cultures in a meaningful and mutually enriching way.
