Barbados needs a rehab revolution

Bridgetown.

Chairman of Prison Fellowship Barbados Win Callender thinks the time is ripe for a rehabilitation on the island.

"With a prison population around 1100 and recidivism out of control, we need to act now! Now is the time for every church, every denomination, every politician. every community and citzen of this country to realise that if we choose not to be part of this rehabilitantion revolution, we are doing an injustice to ourselves and our society", he urged.

According to Callender, crime is an activity that hurt all sectors of  society, not just the culpirt, the victim and their respective families and friends.

"The active and full involvement of all parties is not a new ideal but a forgotten one. To minimise the desructive effects of crime, all parties must step in and act as soon as possible. If we are going to find solutions to this crisis, we have to begin looking at the very foundation of our system", Calender said.

"Crime is not merely an offence against the state and justice is more than punishment", says Callender.

He was speaking at the Angel Tree2012 Launching Ceremony at the Barbados Public Workers Credit Union.
