Barbadians encouraged to join co-operatives

Bridgetown.

Registrar of Co-operatives, Sharon Drayton are encouraging Barbadians to join the co-operatives moment. Speaking to the press over the weekend , after a meeting of the co-perative movement and the Ministry of Trade about this year being dubbed the International Year of Co-operatives. 

According to Drayton even though co-operatives are not often placed at the forefront of the economy, their assets and business help economies of countries to prosper in various areas.

"This year will look at the co-operatives economics and how that can be be used not only in terms of individual co-operative but in terms countries; the way forward for countries", Drayton said.

"Out of this recession period we see that  co-operatives actually now are coming into their own and we hope that this International Year of Co-operatives will actually highlight the benefits of co-operatives working together to form synergies and to foster relationships", she added.
