Bandits robbed businessman $4M and took away shotgun – two persons arrested

East Bank Demerara : The two men are in police custody and the car has been detained as  the police are investigating an armed robbery at Soesdyke Public Road, EBD, where businessman Mangra Raghoo, 57 years, and vendor Amelia Persaud, 28 years, both of Soesdyke, were attacked and robbed by five men armed with handguns.

According to a police report the perpetrators entered the grocery store where they held up Mangra Raghoo, his employees and a number of customers and placed them to lie on the ground.

They then took away jewellery and a cell phone from Amelia Persaud and took Mangra Raghoo upstairs where they ransacked the building and took away $4 million, Raghoo’s licensed 12 gauge shotgun and cartridges, and a quantity of cigarettes. They are believed to have escaped by boat along the river.

Acting on information received two men were arrested in a motor car at Coverden, EBD, following a chase by police ranks assisted by members of the public. It is suspected that the car was used to transport the perpetrators at some stage during the incident.
