Bandits robbed Berbice Goldsmith $5M in Gold and Jewellery

Berbice: Just after 1:00pm today three men, one armed with a shotgun attacked goldsmith Vishwanauth Seeram at Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to the police, Vishwanauth Seeram had concluded selling at his stall at the Rose Hall Municipal Market and was sitting in his motor car at Independence Street, Rose Hall, waiting on his employee Kumar Gopaul.

As Kumar Gopaul entered the motor vehicle, the three men confronted them.  The armed man discharged a round which damaged the vehicle’s windscreen and struck Kumar Gopaul to his face.  The men then grabbed a bag that contained jewellery valued at $5 million, along with a scale for weighing gold and a cell phone from the vehicle and escaped.

Kumar Gopaul has been admitted a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The police have since launched an investigation.
