Bandits escape with $$$ after torching NIS vault

Georgetown: Six heavily armed gunmen stormed the National Insurance Scheme’s (NIS) Regional Office at Pouderoyen on the West Bank Demerara (W.B.D) Thursday morning escaping with millions of dollars.

The bandits reportedly tied up the security guard, demanded keys to several parts of the building and carry out a robbery. The men torched a safe and carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash and a firearm from the security guard. Police have since arrested the security guard pending investigations.
