Bandit who trailed businesswoman killed during botched robbery

Georgetown: A bandit was killed Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Giftland Mall on the Liliendaal Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara.

Reports indicate that a businesswoman and her bodyguard came under attack and the bodyguard opened fire, killing one of three robbers. A vehicle later dropped off one of the robber at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Investigators said that the businesswoman was escorted from the Eugene F. Correia ‘Ogle’ Airport with gold and cash when they were being trailed. They came under attack when the vehicle decided to stop on the public road to make a purchase to a food stall. There, a KGM Security Service guard opened fire and struck the suspected bandits.
