Bajan singing sensation wins Icon Award

Barbadian singing sensation Rihanna was the pick of the superstars at the 2013 American Music Awards  (AMA) last night.

Rihanna  who was presented with the first AMA Icon Award by her mother Monica after a video presentation and congratulatory message from mentor Jayz, said she was grateful to her fans.

“My fans I love you so much, you keep me driven.  You keep this thing special and right now at 25 years old, I can’t believe I’m holding an icon award.  . . . I’m grateful,” she said in an acceptance speech in which she made reference to her beginnings in Westbury Road, St Michael.
