A man will be facing charges shortly after police officers enroute to the Arimu Backdam, Mazaruni, observed him throwing away a bag from a motor-vehicle which had stopped along the trail, as they approached.
 
The bag was retrieved by the police and found to contain an unlicensed 9mm. pistol with 15 matching rounds and a quantity of marijuana.
 
The man has been arrested and is in police custody. 
 

 The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will conduct a Training Workshop for new environmental negotiators in Georgetown, Guyana from November 10-12.

The training will equip regional environmental negotiators who have just entered the field to conduct climate change negotiations.

The training is designed to boost the environmental negotiating capacities of CARICOM Member States as well as to outfit the region with a group of negotiators to articulate effectively the region’s positions on a range of environmental issues in international fora.

 A 60-year-old woman from Mocha Village on the East Bank of Demerara is now listed as critical after a car hit her while she was crossing a pedestrian crossing this morning on Camp Street, Georgetown.

The woman was rushed to the emergency unit at the Georgetown Hospital where she remains fighting for her life.
For this year there have been more than 100 road fatalities. November is observed as road safety month in Guyana.
 

We will survive. This was the statement from Dane Lewis, the chairman of the Island People mas band, in response to government’s plan to have a "free" mas band next year. Winston Peters the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism yesterday announced that any with a costume could play mas free of charge next year in a "people’s band". Lewis has lauded the government’s initiative saying such a concept has already proved successful in other islands. Lewis said he didn’t envisage the people’s band affecting the private bands as it catered to a different market.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has dedicated her Glamour magazine award to all the women who nurtured her to become who she is. Persad-Bissessar has been named as one of the top five females for 2010 by the internationally recognized magazine. She received her award at Carnegie Hall in New York yesterday.  "I want you to know that it’s okay to dream big dreams. The world is your oyster," she said in her acceptance speech last night.
