Liliendaal, Georgetown- President of Ecuador Rafael Correa handed over the mantle of chairmanship of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) to Guyanese President Bharrat today, promising his full support. President Correa promised the Guyanese President to count on his support to better deliver what he needs to do.

Two men are in custody tonight after police intercepted their car and allegedly found a quantity of ammunition.
Sources told TrakkerNews the car was stopped during a roadblock along the East Coast Demerara earlier this evening.
This comes after a recent upsurge in crime in the area and a new heightened police security for the holiday season.

Liliendaal, Georgetown-Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, arriving along with other South American leaders for the official opening of the Unasur Summit, told reporters that he is pleased with the ongoing relationship with the Government and people of Guyana. He plans to visit Guyana regularly  in the interest of mutual friendship and benefit of the people of both Guyana and Venezuela.

Liliendaal, Georgetown-President Bharrat  Jagdeo is calling on  South American leaders to take a collective approach to combating the drug trade, which he says is crippling the economies of the hemisphere.
Speaking at the opening of the Fourth Regular UNASUR summit just before lunch, Jagdeo says it is among the key challenges facing South Americans.
He says leaders must strive to minimize inequality, since South America is now longer the underdogs.

 Kitty, Georgetown- A 12 year old school girl was rushed to the hospital after being struck by the driver of this car seen in the picture. The seemingly young driver skidded off the road after he hit the pupil and ended up on the sidewalk on Garnette street, one of the busiest access roads in the Kitty area. Luckily her injuries were not severe, but it appears her knee may have suffered a fracture as it started to swell. The driver explained that his brakes failed and he lost control of the car.

 Essequibo River-

The police have launched a search for Hamond Hing called ‘Chinee’, 52 years of Waraeena, Upper Bonasika Creek, who was in the paddle boat when he disappeared.
According to reports, a boat powered by a 75hp outboard motor engine collided with the Hing’s paddle boat in the Bonasika Creek, Essequibo River and he could not be located since.
The search party now consists of the police, Hing’s relative and public spirited citizens in the area.

Just diagonal to the Guyana International Conference Center where the UNASUR summit will be opened tomorrow, is the brand new 50m Olympic size pool which is yet to be commissioned.

Today, TrakkerNews camera capured the image of a donkey tied by the gate standing guard. Upon a check, the 400 plus million dollar facility does not have a security guard.
