APNU not convinced the Marriott Hotel project is feasible

Joseph HarmonGeorgetown: A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) is demanding that an urgent audit be conducted on all expenditure and commitments on the Marriott Hotel before any sale of interest in Atlantic Hotel Inc. The party even wants the process to be reviewed by the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly. APNU Member of Parliament Joseph Harmon said all investors including the banks are now being put on notice that his party considers the project as lacking economic justification.

Harmon also shared the view that the Head the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), Winston Brassington and other board members should also be investigated.

The Government intends to spend a whopping 21 Million US dollars on the project, which is being undertaken by Atlantic Hotels Inc a company set up by NICIL to manage the Marriott. The Opposition’s concern is that the Government has not been too forthcoming about the project and the movers and shakers behind it. The administration has been pushing the project for over three years now and with construction under-way, there appears to be no turning back for the Government.
