APD unfair says British Member of Parliament

Bridgetown.

Mark Pritchard, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Wreken is calling for  review of the Air Passenger Duty (APD).

Speaking to the press at the Lloyd Erskine sandiford Centre yesterday Pritchard said, the ADP was not equitable and pledged his support to the Government of Barbados who  has been lobbying the British Parliament to change it.

"I think that the Air Passenger Duty as it currently stands is not equitable, is not a level playing field and is something that i personally think should be review", Pritchard said.

He added that with another increase due in November, there was a short window of opportunity for those who shared his view.

" I will continue to do what I can along with other colleagues and I must say there are members of parliment of all major parties who hold a similar veiw. We will continue to all we can to try to get our government to recognize that whilst revenues do need to be increased, there needs to be an wholistic view of the impact of the APD", says Pritchard.

Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy who attended the press conference said the APD would have a major impact on the money British visitors spent in Barbados.

"Person will still travel but that money that  goes towards unfair aviation taxes is money that we want them to spend in Bridgetown, Oistins and everywhere else", Sealy said.
