Georgetown: As holiday celebrations continue, another man was stabbed to death, this time in the East Coast Demerara village of Mahaica. Reports reveal that two men who were involved in a heated argument Sunday afternoon got into a heated fight and one of them was stabbed to death.
Dead is 43-year-old Sheldon Richards of Supply, Mahaica. Guyana has recorded over 115 murders for this year already. This past Christmas weekend was one of the bloodiest with at least five murders being committed during personal conflicts.
According to reports, the dead man and relatives were having a holiday drink at his home when an argument ensued. This resulted in Richards finding a piece of wood and lashing his relative to the head, the relative reacted by grabbing a knife and stabbing him to the chest. He subsequently dropped on a bridge and died.
Meanwhile, two Corentyne, Berbice men were killed and three others injured on Sunday night during brawl in a bar at Manchester in Corentyne. Dead are 28-year-old Mark Simon, and 23-year-old Kempton Gray, both of Corentyne. The incident took place late on Sunday night while the two men and three other men were at a bar and got into an argument. According to a police report, the five men got into an argument and that quickly erupted into a full out brawl. They were all badly injured and taken to the hospital. The police report stated that Mark Simon was pronounced dead on arrival while the 23-year-old Kempton Gray died while receiving medical attention. Two of the three other men were admitted to the hospital while the other was treated and discharged. Police are investigating the brutal fight that led to the two deaths.
