Amalgamated Security Services (Guyana) commences training

Security (1)Georgetown: Amalgamated Security Services (Guyana) Inc began training of its’ first batch of Security Officers on Monday 17th November 2014.

Leading the training is Davis Douglas, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police from Trinidad & Tobago. Douglas is a man with 38 years of experience in the Police Service, followed by 10 years in Amalgamated. He is ably assisted by Cortland Gordon, himself formerly of the Guyana Police Force, who brings 36 years of experience to bear on training.

The trainees have already undergone preliminary academic testing, passed an initial interview, and have also passed their mandatory drug test. They must now successfully complete 3 weeks of training and pass their interim and final exams. The last hurdle will be a management interview which they must successfully negotiate before being deemed fit enough to wear the Amalgamated uniform. Distinction in academics is not enough to succeed; an aptitude for problem solving, diligence and the attitude towards excellence itself are important hallmarks of natural leaders and good persons that will excel in the challenging field of private security.

Security (2)The 21 trainees, of which 7 are female, are not only drawn from the capital Georgetown, but hail from as far afield as Linden and the East Berbice regions. Many have prior experience in the uniformed services such as the police, military, fire or prison services; others come from other private security companies. Some have no experience in the industry whatsoever; Amalgamated discriminates against none.

Training will consist of such routine security topics as Access Control, Guarding, Conducting Patrols and the like. To impart superior knowledge and to inculcate superior skills and performance however, Amalgamated will have a specialist instructor to convey knowledge with respect to Customer Service and the UN Declaration of Human Rights. The course is scheduled to end on Friday the 5th of December.

Amalgamated Security Services (Guyana) Inc is part of a larger family of companies that is headquartered in Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago; there are operations in Grenada, St Lucia and Barbados; Amalgamated over time will become a truly pan-Caribbean company.
