Although SWAT team seems good it should be guided by rules

Winston FelixGeorgetown: Former Commissioner Of Police Winston Felix believes that the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) Team announced by the Government should be under the command of the Police Commissioner rather than Political direction and influence.

The shadow Minister Of Home Affairs said the move is a welcome one, but noted it should be governed by rules.

This new move comes on the heels of an upsurge in criminal activities across the Country, where a number of brutal murders and robberies have taken place.

The Government is constantly under fire from the Parliamentary Opposition Parties for not implementing recommendations of the disciplined services commission and other commissions that were set up to look into the daily operations of the Guyana Police Force.

For its part the Government is constantly blaming the opposition for having connections with the criminal enterprise.
