Almost a billion dollars to pay CLICO ‘s policy holders

The money owned to 35,000 CLICO' policy holders is $837 million, this sum  was revealed by  Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler at a mass political meeting at Passage Road, St Michael last night. 

Responding to a statement by Leader of the Opposition Owen Arthur that the policy holders if his Barbados Labour Party is elected to office. Sinckler said he shared the view that policy holders should be paid the money owned them by CLICO it simply cannot be done.

The Minister said that Barbados could be facing litigation from some islands in the Eastern Caribbean if it payed local policy holders but not those countries.

"Prime Minister Stuart and I had a meeting with several leaders in the Eastern Caribbean and they warned us if we break for oursleves, they will take us to court", Sinckler said.

He told the meeting that Arthur's statement was just a gimmick.
