All Set for Pakaraima Mountain Safari 2014

GTAGeorgetown:  The final inspection for the vehicles embarking on the 2014 Pakaraima Mountain Safari was undertaken yesterday, as each was branded with the 2014 safari logo and that of the sponsors, Guyoil/Castrol.

Participants and sponsors gathered at the Sophia Exhibition Site for the inspection ceremony, where representatives from the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA)  and Rainforest Tours provided a synopsis of the highly anticipated activity.

 GTA’s Director, Indranauth Haralsingh noted that the upcoming Safari may be the largest yet; although 24 vehicles have registered, a convoy of 31  vehicles, including a truck,   will  undertake the over 600-mile journey starting on April 12  moving off from the newly built Guyoil gas station on Regent Street.

 He revealed too that under the ‘Drive Guyana’ Campaign, an initiative of the Honourable Tourism , Industry and Commerce Minister, Irfaan Ali,  several other mini safaris will be staged throughout the year which will allow more persons to experience the beauty of Destination Guyana.

Haralsingh used the forum to laud the participants, particularly those who have grown along with the event, the sponsors and the media, for their continued support.

“Without you, the enthusiastic participants, this event would not be possible,” he stated.

 Alluding to the benefits of such a trip, he urged those embarking on the ‘Journey of a Lifetime’ to make meaningful contributions to the communities they will visit and to appreciate the beauty that lies therein.

 The GTA Director explained too that additional details on the Safari Truck will be available soon as advertisements will be placed in the daily newspapers; this is an affordable initiative aimed at encouraging more persons to see Guyana.

 Over the years, the annual event, organized by Rainforest Tours and Mr. Frank Singh  has received tremendous support  from the sponsors, including  the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and GTA, Guyoil/Castrol, Marketing and Distribution , MMC, and GT&T; testimony to the successes of this activity, the Safari Club was formed with an Executive Body including Mr. Frank Singh as President and Mr. Edward Luke King as Vice President.

 The Pakaraima Mountain Safari , dubbed the “ Adventure of a Lifetime”   entails travelling via 4×4 vehicles across Regions 4, 8, 9 and 10, starting below sea level and reaching approximately 3,800 ft above sea level. The journey takes participants through rugged terrain and passing more than 25 Amerindian villages before reaching its destination, Orinduik Falls.  The 2014 Pakaraima Safari will be staged from April 12-20th
