All rouge cops will go- Public Security Minister

Khemraj RamjattanGeorgetown: Minister of Public Security and Vice President, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan has indicated his intention to remove elements that are counter-productive to the Guyana Police Force. He has expressed his happiness that one has already been dismissed by the Commissioner of Police.

The first to go was Mohanram Dolai who, along with Narine Lall was found criminally liable of burning  the genitals of 15 year old Tywon Thomas in 2009.

With respect to Lall, his case has to be handled by the Police Service Commission.

Minister Ramjattan noted that he has persuaded the Commissioner that persons who put methylated spirits on someone and then light a match should not be in the force. “That’s torture, that’s inhumane and degrading treatment, it’s criminal…” the Minister declared.

He insisted that “all rogue cops will go when investigations find them culpable of wrong doing within the force. Minister Ramjattan noted that whilst he had had discussions with the Commissioner of Police indicating that as control was lax, justice had failed and rouge cops are still within the force.

The Minister has stated clearly that there will be zero tolerance for harassment of any kind against any citizen. He pointed out that the next step would be to inform the Police Service Commission that it would be the policy of the new administration for the removal of all rogue cops.
